New Statement from "Magic" (Original Epoch Team) - April 18
Here is what really happened, I think the community is owed the truth:
Shortly after I left the project the team received real C&D letters. A private investigator personally knocked on my door and hand delivered it. People can say it's fake all they want but that's the truth, I still have a copy in my drawer.
From here onward I was not involved in the project, but multiple sources I have corroborate the story. Prior to the C&D letters being sent, but after me leaving, Project Epoch merged with Ascension. Epoch team members were given the choice to choose between a part time or full time salary, or leave the project. For privacy reasons I won't share who stayed, took the offer, or left.
The reason Epoch doesn't receive much PR from Ascension is in part for two reasons:
#1 Epoch was deemed not monetarily viable compared to other projects already in Ascension's ecosystem, and was mainly used to funnel players into Ascension's ecosystem (Bronzebeard)
#2 The remaining team members from the original dev team that still work on Epoch today want to stay on the low to avoid legal threats.
After the lawsuit with Turtle dropped everyone still on the team went radio silent and dipped, some of them still work on the project, some don't. Kaytotes strung along the remaining team members working with Ascension and essentially stopped delivering any results, leaving Epoch's development to less knowledgeable people which is another reason it doesn't get frequent updates. I think what happened genuinely is he finally cracked after 4 years of chronic abuse from the community and no longer had any passion to work on the project.
Ascension taking in Epoch was no act of charity, contrary to how they tried to spin it. Personally I think Ascension is the next server to fall. It's a ticking time bomb until a lawsuit comes.
Just for the record: the official launch peak was 28k that I saw in active connections between all realms + queues.
I'm curious how MC goes when it comes out. None of the mechanics were done, we were going to crunch post launch and make them all. Uldum's WMO model is done, some placeholder trash for the trailer but that's about it iirc.
[2026-04-26 - Project Epoch - General]
+ Epoch cosmetic shop has been removed. There are no plans for it to return.
It was almost entirely unused and was not meaningfully contributing to upkeep
for the realms.
+ As a result, we decided it wasn't right for it to continue existing and giving
the impression Epoch is the state to see increased development capacity and maintenance.
+ All DP ever used on Kezan and Gurubashi has been recredited to your account.
+ If you had cosmetic items on Kezan or Gurubashi you will still keep them.

Anyway their text just says that Epoch won't get any increased development.
It doesn't mean shutting down and getting no development at all.
We will probably get the same development we are getting now.
all they said was they didn't want to give the impression that the development was going to increase.
They didn't say they were killing it
... trotz vieler neuer spieler kein zusätzlicher Aufwand für epoch

+ To be clear, the cosmetic shop was closed because it never made enough for upkeep.
A promise was made the shop would not be expanded beyond classic style cosmetics in any way,
and we intend to keep that promise. The shop existing gave the impression the realm can get
more support, more development, and more maintenance than it actually can
